Is multiculturalism Britain's greatest strength?

 Back in 2025 Starmer said:

"Britain is, and always will be, a multicultural, diverse country. That's not just a slogan - it's our history and our strength."

I struggle to see how being a multicultural country is a strength. Sure we get a wider range of food, get to chat with locals when we are planning holidays to get useful information.  The fact that a large percentage of our population is now multi-lingual - that could be useful for trade although I suspect that strength is rarely exploited. Sadly 2% of people who live in the UK cannot speak English.

Quite the opposite - I see huge cultural divisions emerging in the UK.  There are areas where English is not spoken - and I dont mean Wales.  The divisions are not generating wealth for the UK.

So let's look  at China. It's 90% Han Chinese and is pretty much 99.9% oriental.  China is forcing Mandarin to be the sole language of China - Cantonese is a dying language in Hong Kong.

Or Japan - it's 97% native Japanese.  These are both strong economies - far stronger than the UK. They can hardly be considered multi-cultural.

So there is absolutely not a correlation between multiculurism and strength.

So I don't think being a diverse country has translated into economic strength. It might have the potential to but lack of government leadership has not translated that into a real strength.

Instead we have large numbers of unskilled migrants entering the UK where the wholelife cost of these migrants is a burden. They might be doing useful work eg care work but they are not a strength - they are an overhead for society.

The foreign billionaires, who are wealth creators, have all fled the UK with Labour's non dom taxation policy. There has been a net flow of wealth out of the UK so clearly Starmer only wants poor multiculturalism here and wants the wealthy non British to leave.

So Starmer's quote is more just sound bites rather than fact.

I'm just waiting for a few other quotes to come from the lips of Starmer and his cronies

"Our high energy prices are our greatest strength"

"Our high taxes empower economic growth"

"A bloated state is our greatest strength"

"High inflation is a powerful economic enabler"
