Starmerosis - the hypocritical state of Starmer
The last week, with the Mandelson saga, has truly exposed Starmer's hypocrisy. The rot of Starmerosis has been exposed.
Let's rewind the clock to January 2022 when Starmer was lambasting Boris for eating cake during lockdown. He cited "serious failure to observe’ standards for government, and lapses of leadership and judgement".
Hmmm sounds like now. However eating birthday cake seems trivial to what has happened. This is certainly worse than the Profumo affair.
Starmer's appearance on TV to "apologise" his decision to appoint Mandy was totally cringe-worthy. A few days before on Wednesday at PMQs he was forced to admit he was aware of Mandy's on-going relationship with Epstein and had been briefed but Starmer appointed him anyway. His fake apology was a school boy attempt to deflect onto Mandy and blame him when it was clear he made the decision.
If Starmer was a leader and took ownership for his decisions he would have said "I was aware of Mandy's ongoing relationship with Epstein when I appointed him. I was not aware of his severe failings in passing on confidential market sensitive information. At the time I made the decision I thought he was the best candidate to ensure a strong relationship with USA - our key ally. However as information has come to light it has become clear this was not the best decision. With the benefit of hindsight I can see I should not have appointed Mandy. I apologise for this lack of judgement."
Instead the Starmerosis rot has set in and he deflecting and blaming. It's everyone else's fault except his.
In July 2024, Starmer promised to "restore honesty and integrity to government”. He often says "solemn promise". It's not clear whether this was one of his "solemn promises" or just one of his "everyday promises".
He clearly hasn't practised what he preached and adopted the moral high ground to observe standards in government and has clearly had serious lapses in leadership and judgement. Here's some Starmer quotes:
‘To govern this country is an honour, not a birthright. It is an act of service to the British people…It requires honesty, integrity and moral authority.’
‘Whatever people’s politics, whatever party they vote for, honesty and decency matter. Our great democracy depends on them.’
‘I want to make a concrete commitment,’ he proclaimed in a speech to the Labour party, ‘about decency and standards in public life… Selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, leadership… my solemn promise to you will always be to run a government that honours these principles… I will always fight to defend those essential British values of honesty, decency and integrity….’
‘I vow’ (this too was ‘solemn’) that any government I led would ‘govern in the public interest. Where standards stand for something; where truth means something and where honesty is at the heart of everything it does.’
I am really struggling to see where there is honesty or integrity anywhere in the Starmer's government. This lack of honesty and integrity starts at the top. If the leader is rotten then the rot spreads downwards.
Here's the track record so far:
1/ On the 10 Jan 2025 Louise Haigh pleaded guilty to fraud
2/ Rachel was found to have embellished her CV with untruths
3/ Tulip Siddiq has been convicted of corruption in her home country
