Rachel's last shambolic budget - my analysis

My money was on Rachel pulling a sickie but sadly she turned up to deliver her budget. True to form she put  party before country.   Maybe the dog ate her "good budget". Bizarrely pretty much everything she said was leaked by the OBR before the Budget. Total chaos reflective of pretty much everything Labour does. My prayers to the Gods of Calamity must have been answered by the OBR leak. Total comedy !  With leaks of budgets content over  the last few months we pretty much knew what was in the budget - unlike Rachel.  I suspect today was a complete surprise for her to find out what she was implementing. The constant  budget "leaks" have been going on for months, possibly hundreds of hypothetical budgets have been leaked  - what little hope business owners and the UK economy had, has been driven out of us through  fear of what she will do .  The UK has stagnated through the rumour mill. Former Bank of England chief economist Andy Haldane ...

A visit from St Rachel

'Twas the night before Budget, when all through the houses of Parliament Not a creature was stirring, not even a  Kier For Two Tier Kier was rarely here The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Rachel soon would fill them with freebies; The benefit claimants were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of benefit hand-outs danced in their heads; The Union cronies rubbed their hands with glee With big handouts to be handed to thee When out on the dispatch box there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my chamber to see what was the matter. There was St Rachel dressed in Red Searching frantically for a Speech not one in her head St Rachel had been writing the words of  Budgets that no one will hear Look at her working, writing Budgets in the night when there's nobody there Her wastebin full of Budgets too nice to pass What does she care? Now St Rachel was all in a fluster  Which  Budget will pull muster Two Tier Kier was not here to ask ...

If Labour were a tenant

I was just thinking about what state my rental property would be left in if Labour were a tenant. Firstly they wouldn't pay the rent.  They would make repeated promises that the rent was in the post and other excuses. They would borrow lots of money but use it for anything but paying the rent. They would eventually blame the previous tenants for everything. They would repeatedly change who was living in the house. Reshuffle after reshuffle.  Eventually I would attempt to try and evict them but be stuck with a legal system defending their rights and have to wait 3 more long painful years to get them out. In the meantime they would blame me and make out I was somehow the enemy. During this long protected eviction period  they  would rearrange the house claiming they were making it better.  They would re-wire the electrics claiming it was green but make it completely un-safe but leaving me with a mess to clear up when they were finally evicted. They would pro...

Spineless Starmer

Starmer has resorted to calling Farage "Spineless" - presumably to distract the public away from the car crash of a budget that awaits us. The comment was made in relation to alleged racist comments Farage made when he as a child. I dont really care whether Farage made the comments.  I dont care what communist loving comments Starmer made when he was 12.  I do care about Starmer's spineless (or should that be spinless) behaviour since he has been Prime Minister. Let's start with recent news Starmer failed to act against Angela Rayner for tax evasion - a CRIMINAL act.  She was left with no choice but to resign. Starmer was happy with her and hoping the bad news would go away if he stuck his fingers in his ears. What was Angela punishment?  She was awarded a TAX FREE £16,876 severance package  by Kier for RESIGNING from the role. That's £40 per day for the 427 days she was in the job.   Clearly Kier likes to reward CRIMINAL behaviour. Starmer failed to a...

Hopeless Rachel

As we approach Rachel's probably final budget - the situation with the UK economy is looking pretty hopeless. Rachel is hopelessly clutching at straws to extract yet more tax from us in order to service the spiralling debt that she has recklessly added to since coming to power.  When the comedy double act or "the Rachel and Kier show" came to power, they flooded us with negatively and unfortunately for the UK, the population has listened to,  believed and then embraced their negativity - causing the economy to stall.  People are nervous of what they will do - people are shifting their behaviour as a direct result. In stark contrast with Blair, he arrived to Professor Brian Cox's anthem of "Things can only get better". Maybe Kier should have used "Thing's can only get worse by The Chancers" as his theme tune. Unlike Liz Truss, the Rachel and Kier double act really have crashed the economy.  Today's statistics released by the Office for Nati...

Would a mansion tax be legal?

Speculation is rife on a mansion tax or at least some re-adjustment of the council tax bands. The mansion tax "proposal" seems to be a property tax on the value of the property in the form of a levy. Say your property is worth £2M then you pay 1% tax levy on the value of your property each year so this is basically an additional tax on the OWNER of £2,000 per year.  It is not the OCCUPIER that is paying it but the OWNER. So this is effectively a LEASEHOLD charge in the same way you have to pay ground rent or other LEASEHOLD charges.  The governement has suddenly become the SUPERIOR LANDLORD to your supposed FREEHOLD asset. The speculation goes on to say that if there are equity rich, cash poor OWNERS of "mansions" then your can defer payment of the levy until death or the property is disposed of. This sounds like the government is going to establish a legal CHARGE on your property so they are priority creditor against your property. So is this legal? I suspect not....

Should I stay or should I go (If I stay there will be trouble)

The Clash lyrics seem to capture the current situation in the UK. Should I stay or should I go? We have an exodus of the wealthy fleeing the UK fearing  that their wealth will be confiscated by the Labour party. Off they go to Italy, Dubai where their money is appreciated. So much for Starmer and his alledged Human Rights legal experience.  The Human Right's Act states: "The state cannot interfere with your peaceful enjoyment of your possessions without a valid, lawful reason" nor "You cannot be deprived of your possessions unless it is for the public interest and is provided for by law".  Speculation is that Rachel is about to effectively change FREEHOLD property into LEASEHOLD property with the introduction of mansion taxes. Given the threshold for a "Mansion" is the price of a London flat it seems the barrier for State theft is getting pretty low. So I am on the page that it's time to flee the UK.  I wouldn't consider myself wealthy but when...

Why are small businesses struggling?

The headlines,  as Rachels' second (and potentially last) budget approaches, suggests business will bear the brunt of this latest round of tax rises. Small businesses are struggling.  The last budget's job tax has resulted in stagnant growth, rising unemployment and inflation .  Given Rachel's rallying battle cry of " Grow Baby Grow " she is totally unaware of cause and effect. So let's look back to happier years when the economy was growing at 1.4% (compared to 0.1% growth last quarter).  Back in 2012 the VAT threshold where businesses had to register for VAT was £77,000.  Using the bank of England inflation calculator the threshold would be £111,370 today has it kept pace with inflation. The current threshold is £90,000.  So in real terms the threshold has not increased since 2021.  This is another example of fiscal drag. For consumer facing businesses the VAT threshold is a big hurdle. Firstly you either have to increase your prices by 20% or ...
